Join author and historian Maria Østerby Elleby on a dark and captivating journey through the history of witchcraft. With a sharp eye on past persecutions and the place of magic in pop culture, Maria explores why we are still fascinated by witches.
It has been more than 300 years since the last witch was burned at the stake in Denmark. Yet, magic thrives, and the witch remains an undeniable phenomenon in film, literature, music, and especially on social media.
But who were the real witches and wizards? How did the witch become such a powerful icon? And why does witchcraft still appeal to us today?
Look forward to embarking on a magical hunt through history with Maria as she separates fact from legend and shines a spotlight on the witches of reality.
Maria Østerby Elleby is a historian, lecturer, and Public Outreach Inspector at Rudersdal Museer. She is the author of “Hekseri - Den store bog om magi” and will release two new books on witches in 2026: “Den Satans Tumult – heksejagt i højesteret” and “Bål og Brand”.
