Louis Armstrong's Life and Music is a concert celebrating one of jazz's greatest icons – the trumpeter, singer, and entertainer who forever changed the history of popular music.
Prinsens Musikkorps, the Royal Air Force Orchestra, presents an energetic and lively concert where Armstrong's music is told and interpreted in both classic and new arrangements. The audience will gain insight into Armstrong's life, his revolutionary playing, and his enormous significance for the development of jazz.
The soloist is trumpeter Henrik Bolberg, who has been a central soloist in DR Big Band since 1989 and has collaborated with, among others, Niels Jørgen Steen, Poul Godske, and several award-winning jazz ensembles. Bolberg has received the Ben Webster Prize (1995), the JASA Prize (1996), and the Palæ Bar Prize (2010).
As a narrator, Jens Sølund participates, a former member of Papa Bue’s Viking Jazzband, who for two decades toured in more than 30 countries and played with some of the greatest American jazz musicians. Sølund brings both stories, humor, and authentic jazz culture to the concert.
The concert is a festive and educational tribute to Louis Armstrong – filled with swing, humor, and top-class musicality.
