Introduction to Holberg // Dramatic Reading Circle

Join us for an entertaining evening where we will read excerpts from the comedy 'Den stundesløse' and learn more about Holberg, his dramatic techniques, and the possibilities they offer for staging. The evening will begin with a presentation about Holberg and the theatrical tradition, followed by an interaction between reading aloud, discussion, and an exploration of the techniques used in the text. The event is open to all – even if you have not previously read drama. The most important thing is the desire to meet around theater and explore the texts together. Dramatic Reading Circle – an overall course This event is part of the Dramatic Reading Circle, where we will meet around theater and drama throughout the spring. Here, we go in-depth with theatrical texts and discuss what they are about and how they work. The course includes presentations, group reading, and conversation. The evening about Holberg is the second part of the course.

The other meetings are:

• Monday, April 13 at 6:30–9:00 PM: Reading and conversation with playwright Thomas Howalt.
• An unknown date in June: We will read a dramatic work that participants themselves choose from a curated list. Should it be a great drama, a wild comedy, or a dystopian future story? Here, participants have a say.

It is an advantage – but not a requirement – to attend all three times.

Part of a nationwide project The course is part of Danmarks Dramatiske DNA, a nationwide initiative under Det Kgl. Bibliotek. The project works to strengthen interest in Danish drama and make both classical and newer theatrical texts accessible to new readers through dramatic reading circles at the country's public libraries.
