Future-jazz group Abekejser has outdone themselves with their third studio album, Algoality. It’s a hyper-digital injection of electronic endorphins that hacks all your senses. Just ask the reviewer from GAFFA!
They use analog keyboards with lush solos and vocoders that give a space-age feel, placing the group somewhere between the 70s and the present day without being retro. That’s because something new is always happening. Their groovy, highly rhythmic music will make you both float and dance. The four emperor apes are not just ready to travel out into space. With their music, they can conquer the whole world!

Abekejser still sounds like Abekejser. However, there has been a real tightening up of the musical expression for the 10-year-old band.
It’s still Jeppe Lavsen on guitar, Jon Døssing Bendixen on keyboards and vocals, Adrian Christensen on bass, and Frederik Bülow on drums. The new record is a dreamy and poetic universe with travelers through time and space. They use analog keyboards with lush solos and vocoders that give a space-age feel, placing the group somewhere between the 70s and the present day. They are not aiming for a retro sound. There is a constantly shifting groove where something is always happening in the rhythms. The bass grounds and ties everything together alongside a guitar that calmly and effortlessly adds an organic touch.
It’s both floating and danceable. Algoality is Abekejser’s best release to date. There’s an overflow of great tracks. There’s the calm Tabula Eraser, featuring Kristine Kier Jørgensen on violin. There’s the opening track Hyper Nature, where Jon Døssing Bendixen sings through the vocoder: We are living in a future. They take the future back to a time when it was something you longed for. There’s the optimistic Let me out, which goes straight to your core. I have to highlight New Singularity+, which bubbles like an 80s synthpop hit built on a solid, meaty bassline. A massive hit. Abekejser gets a huge recommendation.”
